This past week, H-E-B’s Ready Fresh Go sliced apples were voluntarily recalled over listeria concerns.

All sliced fresh apples from H-E-B groceries were recalled on Wednesday due to a potential listeria contamination. Food Safety News reported that “listeria monocytogenes contamination discovered during internal testing by Fresh From Texas spurred the recall. The pathogen was found in two random samples of the same product.”

Overall, 14 products were recalled, all of which contained sliced apples. From fruit party trays to fresh fruit medleys, all of these products are sold in H-E-Bs around the state so consumers are urged to take caution.

While no listeria cases have been reported or linked to the apple recall, the FDA is urging people who have consumed those foods in the last few weeks to pay attention to potential symptoms of listeria, which can be fatal.

As NBC DFW reported, “healthy people may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea.”

If you experience any combination of these symptoms, you should see a doctor immediately before symptoms worsen. As Food Safety News reported, “it is not known if the facility that produced the recalled apple products is continuing to process and distribute other products.”
