Back in 2015, Texas Longhorns defensive end Breckyn Hager vowed that he wouldn’t cut his hair until Texas won the Big 12 Championship. True to his word, he finally received a hair cut from none other than Longhorns superfan Matthew McConaughey after the Longhorns win against the Georgia Bulldogs in the Sugar Bowl.

Taking to social media as the hair was about to hit the floor, Hager posted for all to see as McConaughey chopped the locks. Although the Longhorns didn’t win the Big 12 Championship, they had successfully earned their first 10-win season since 2009. Subsequently, Hager kept his word. Hager posted his before-and-after shots on January 7, 2019.

Following a championship of sorts (Ahem, hello Sugar Bowl Champs), his famous golden locks are now a thing of the past. The long-awaited hair cut was originally scheduled to be done by Longhorns sophomore quarterback Sam Ehlinger. Ehlinger was Hager’s high school teammate and was going to cut his hair during the Big 12 Championship trophy presentation while on the podium.

However, the 5th-ranked Oklahoma Sooners bashed that hope by winning the Big 12 in early December 2018. Subsequently, Hager determined it was time to lop off his locks, and the Texas Hill Country native and long-time Longhorns enthusiast-supreme, McConaughey, was selected as the barber. The difference is amazing.
