While playing in the yard, Molly DeLuca was saved from a near fatal rattlesnake attack by her trusty German Shepherd, Haus.

In Tampa, Florida, the DeLuca family thought it was just another Wednesday. However, as seven-year-old Molly was playing outside with her pup, two-year-old Haus, an unwelcome visitor happened to be outside, too. Molly was unaware, but a rattlesnake was in the grass heading directly towards her.

Haus jumped between the girl and the rattlesnake, holding his ground. As Molly’s mother Donya told Fox 13, “She saw him jump back, and go forward, and jump back and go forward. He was just, kind of holding his ground. Next thing we know is, there’s blood and he was limping and crying.”

The family immediately took Haus to the vet where they identified three snakebites and administered antivenin on a drip instead of a dose at a time. He received so much venom in the three bites that vets are still unsure if he will pull through completely, though he is steadily improving.

By Thursday night, the family already had a vet bill of over $10,000 and have set up a GoFundMe account to try and raise money for their hero pup who put himself between his little girls to save her life. As of Monday, May 16, the family has received over $50,000 in donations and counting.
