These ‘Way Out’ Hill Country Wineries Will Make You Thirst for More

By  |

Austin builders Seth and Laura Martin planted grapevines next to their Austin home in 1999 and made the first wine in the garage. Their first batches of wine were undrinkable, and they had a long trial-and-error process in their journey to making great wine. They eventually established a winery just southeast of Lake Buchanan, 65 miles northwest of Austin. For Seth, great wine starts with healthy roots. Rather than taking the cheap and easy method of using chemicals to eliminate harmful organisms in the soil, he built the health of the soil using compost and other sustainable farming methods. Perissos Vineyards is expanding production facilities to meet the demand for their award-winning 100% Texas wines.
