We’ve all heard of or seen the image of what Hollywood thought Texas was like back in the heyday of the western. Many of us were fans of their movies, despite knowing they got a few things (some blatantly obvious) wrong about their portrayal of the Lone Star State. That being said, here are a few pointers we need to address for future filmmakers to help pave the way to a truer “Texas.”

1. We Know How to Make It on Our Own

Before Texas was annexed by the U.S., we were actually a republic, with our own President. It’s true! So, don’t mess with Texas!

2. Shiner Bock Ice Cream

Need we say more? Well, okay. Yes, it exists. Yes, it’s delicious. And, yes, since we took the absolute hardest possible flavor to make into ice cream, we can succeed at pretty much anything!

3. Texas Tornados

They’re not just a really awesome band. They’re legit scary, and the Lone Star State holds the record for most tornados per year (on average). It takes a lot to rattle a Texan, but we don’t fool around with Mother Nature. We find shelter and hope for the best.
