In Navarro County (south of Dallas in Dawson), a house explosion left five people injured and a home completely destroyed. CBS DFW writes that the sudden blast occurred around 11 p.m., and it even shattered the windows of the church next door. Inside the home were the two older homeowners and three guests. Reports say that two people were taken to a nearby hospital by ambulance while the other three had to be airlifted.

Bill Waller, a neighbor who heard the explosion and ran outside, told the news, “They are good Christian people up in years, just kind of playing out their life. They are just salt of the earth type of people.”

A small fire broke out after the explosion but was quickly extinguished. KXXV reports that neighbors, Navarro County Sheriff’s Office, Dawson Police Department, Texas Department of Public Safety, and the Corsicana Fire Department responded to the scene immediately. The cause of the explosion is still under investigation.

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help the family with expenses. The family member who started the campaign says that the three people with the worst injuries from the explosion “are currently undergoing multiple surgeries to repair their badly damaged bodies. The house literally fell on top of them and their guests…they are an elderly couple (70’s and 80’s) who retired years ago and now have to start over from the ground up.”
