The Astrodome Conservancy and Harris County are in the planning stages of organizing a huge bash celebrating the “Eighth Wonder of the World” which is tentatively set for April 9, 2018. The Texas Historical Commission in Austin designated the Astrodome a State Antiquities Landmark earlier this year, which includes other Texas historical buildings such as the State Capitol, and the Alamo, to name some notable sites.
Much like the bash that was held in honor of its 50th celebration in 2015, fans will once again be able to tour and reminisce about the old days of the Astrodome and gaze upon its unique dome roof before its next phase of renovations commences.

Since 2009, The Astrodome has stood vacant as buildings such as NRG Stadium, home of the Houston Texans, have been built around it. In 2005 it was the site that housed thousands of Hurricane Katrina refugees that were displaced by the storm.
According to an article by chron.com “Houston-based Kirksey Architecture is working on the design to retrofit the Astrodome.” In 2013 voters of Harris County rejected a plan for a $217 million bond proposal that would have covered the cost of a massive renovation to the Dome, shared the article.
As plans unveil for the “Eight Wonder of the World” fans can look forward to one last hurrah for their Astrodome, and get that memorable photo where football and baseball games were once cheered for and The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™ welcomed thousands for its record-breaking performances.
