Houston Voiceover Artist Dies in Tragic Skydiving Accident
Houstonian Randy Schell was an experienced, licensed skydiver, and he had already completed a successful jump earlier in the day of his accident. Sadly, on his second skydiving trip that day, he collided with fellow licensed diver, Dennis Wolf, in midair.
ABC 13 says that while the incident is under investigation, Skydive Spaceland officials hypothesize that Schell was rendered unconscious from the impact of the collision. Therefore, he was unable to release his parachute. Wolf suffered a broken rib and a fractured leg. Tragically, Schell passed away.
According to iHeart Media News, Schell was not only well-known in the skydiving community, he was also a successful voice actor behind the mic for promos for “TV’s ‘The Walking Dead’ and commercials for McDonald’s, GEICO and Coca-Cola.”
Chron.com quotes Skydive Spaceland’s CEO Steve Boyd as saying, “Our hearts go out to Denis and Randy’s loved ones following this tragic accident. Our skyfamily is a close-knit one and this hits us all very hard. We will be working on plans to honor his memory with a suitable memorial.”
There have been nine deaths at Skydive Spaceland since 1999, and 21 deaths across the country last year out of 3.2 million jumps.
