Houstonians looking for a sweet late night bite or searching for a dessert to take to a family gathering know House of Pies is the place to go. As their website says, this “Slice of Heaven on Earth” opened up 45 years ago and continues to serve diner food along with incredible pies like banana cream, lemon ice box, chocolate meringue, pumpkin, and even their own flavor called Bayou Goo, which contains “chopped pecans with sweet cream cheese under our perfect mix vanilla and chocolate topped with whipped cream, powdered sugar and chocolate shavings.”

Currently, this local favorite has two locations – one on Kirby and one on Westheimer, but soon, a new location on I-45 South at Fuqua will open its doors to South Houston customers. Chron.com says they’re taking over an old Black Eyed Pea, and they should be able to open in only a matter of weeks! This is the first time the House of Pies will have a location straying from the center of Houston, though the Fuqua address still resides within Beltway 8.

The House of Pies is notorious for being crowded, especially late at night since it’s open 24 hours. Chron.com says that nearby nightlife around Fuqua will probably help to fill up the classic diner booths in no time at all.
