On Monday night following an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, England, 22 people were killed and 59 were wounded from a homemade bomb planted by a 22-year-old man. The New York Times writes, “While Britain has experienced terrorism over several decades, the attack in Manchester was met with particular revulsion because it targeted young people. The Islamic State has said it was responsible.”

Due to this awful violence resulting in young lives lost, major Houston venues have decided to step up their security. Chron.com writes that at the John Legend concert on Tuesday night at the Woodlands Pavilion included more security officers at the venue as well as restrictions on bag sizes. Click2Houston.com says that the huge U2 concert taking place at NRG Stadium will also have more officers, and the McNee Street entrance will be closed for a focus on security at the other entrances.

The Houston Red Cross recommends that in case of emergencies, have a meeting place outside of the venue and take photos of everyone you’re with before the event so police can identify any lost persons by their clothing. During these times of heightened security, event-goers are encouraged to arrive early and remain patient through checkpoints.
