Since EZ TAG, the Harris County Toll Road Authority’s tolling system, is undergoing some major system changes, things aren’t feeling so “EZ” for Houstonians who need assistance with their tags. According to KHOU, customers are often standing in line for at least an hour if they need help.

The Harris County Toll Road Authority advises customers to do their business online, but many solutions require an in-person visit, and some people are saying that the online system is giving them trouble, as well.

EZ TAG customer Shannon Carpenter spoke to the news outside one of the EZ TAG stores. “We couldn’t do [anything.] Not on the internet, not through the website, not even through the phone system. The phones were shut down,” she explained. Her husband went inside to try to shut down the account of a recently deceased family member. “There’s steps you have to take to close an estate,” he said. After waiting in line for a while, he came outside and exclaimed, “Too long!”

“Since we started operating in the new system on Monday morning, the system has performed slowly, which we expected. We communicated with customers that temporary delays can be expected, at the outset,” the Toll Road Authority stated in an email.

Until things calm down, the FAQ on the EZ TAG website is one’s best bet for getting answers in a more timely manner.
