Quite often, we like to spice things up. Sometimes “sweet” just doesn’t do it, you’ve got to add a little zing! to this or to that, and you’d be hard pressed to find a better pepper than the common jalapeño to do it with. Hence, jalapeño jam. Strawberry, peach, grape — you name it. Jalapeños have the potential to make everything better, which is why we put together this simple jalapeño jam recipe from Chef Tips.

Ingredients:

1/2 pound red fresno or jalapeño peppers
1/2 pound green jalapeño peppers
1/2 cup balsamic vinegar
1/4 cup olive oil
1 1/2 cups white sugar
2 1/2 cups water
Salt to taste

Instructions:

  1. Remove stems and seeds from your jalapeños and cut them into and slices.
  2. Heat a large non-stick pan over medium to high heat, add olive oil.
  3. Sauté  the jalapeños until they are soft. Then add your sugar, vinegar and water while working to bring to a boil.
  4. Lower heat, simmer about 30 minutes, and ensure the mixture is thick almost like syrup.
  5. Season with salt to taste, and place in a tightly sealed Mason jar. It’ll keep for up to 2 weeks in the fridge.
  6. Enjoy!
