By  |

On Monday, July 29, 2019, authorities stated that a man walking along Clear Lake City Boulevard, close to Galveston Road in Clear Lake, discovered a human skull in a wooded area. He made the discovery at approximately 11 p.m. and contacted the police. He also discovered a machete and a necklace that’s possibly a crucifix not far from the skull.

Police said that the man went a short distance into the wooded area from Clear Lake City Boulevard and soon spotted the skull. The man spoke to ABC13.com, saying that “These human remains belong to somebody and somebody deserves to know they are deceased. I talked to the good Lord above, I looked into my heart, and I called the authorities.” He told the media he had just spent the day looking for a job prior to making the discovery. In addition to the skull, he also found at least one other bone. A news release by the Houston Police Department (HPD) states that they are presently awaiting autopsy results. At this time, the gender and identity of the victim, as well as the cause of death, have yet to be released.

The video above, detailing the discovery, was shared by KPRC 2 Click2Houston. The man identified as having made the discovery told ABC13 he saw a large cross on a necklace as well as a machete near where he came across the skull. He’s a former wrecker driver with four decades of experience throughout Texas. Having witnessed his share of tragedies, he stated that he hasn’t seen anything like that which he came across on Monday night. “I’ve seen rollovers, I’ve seen people burned up in cars, I’ve seen cars rolled downhill, but nothing like I stumbled across today,” he explained. At present, it’s unclear as to the length of time which the skull has been in its Clear Lake location. The HPD stated that detectives and crime scene units are currently investigating. “We are going to have a team come out here and they’re going to search the woods to see if that’s the only human bones they can find, see if there are more body parts out there or what exactly the situation is,” Lieutenant Larry Crowson, of the HPD, told cw39.com.
