Any season you pick to tour through the Texas Hill Country is a great one. Regardless of whether you’re looking for adventure, or looking for relaxation, you won’t be lacking in gorgeous surrounding scenery and smiling, friendly faces – particularly in the town of Hye, Texas. Finding this little town isn’t all that hard either. Approximately four miles from the LBJ Ranch, between Johnson City and Fredericksburg, sits this small Texas Hill Country town with nary a traffic light, and that suits us just fine. Hye is the definition of good things coming in small packages.

One of your first stops should be to the very first distillery that was legalized in Texas. The Garrison Brothers Distillery makes fresh bourbon every day, and the tours can’t be beat. Their staff is extremely passionate and knowledgeable about their product, and their ownership is just as motivational and driven! According to an interview with the Texas Country Reporter, they have over 5,000 people on their waiting list to simply come and inspect, seal, and box up their craft bourbon, including two days of work, two meals per day, and a shot of that good Texas bourbon every half-hour! When you’re promised the best, you’ll work hard, trust us.

Next up is Hye Market, which features a restaurant and tasting room, and is located in the wonderful, historic Hye Post Office. Carry a unique selection of Texas wines and craft beers, the market proudly hand selects and serves locally sourced products, and their food is some of the best to be had around. Their menu selections can be found online, and you’re definitely welcomed to bring your appetite! Their deli sandwiches get rave reviews from customers, and Chef Mark Church and his staff not only take orders but serve up their great food just the way you like it – including gluten-free and vegetarian options, as well as an avocado option (which any Texan would love!)

In addition to these great places, there are also numerous gorgeous Texas Hill Country wineries and vineyards in Hye, which for the most part come with tasting rooms and also provide tours. Home to Hye Meadow Winery, William Chris Vineyards, and Compass Rose Cellars, Hye town wineries proudly grow their own grapes and process on-site. Compass Rose Cellars produces high-quality product and pairs it with premium food for a unique experience. William Chris Vineyards practices low-impact production on 40 acres, offering a 100 percent purely Texan experience. And, Hye Meadow Winery is situated on 62 acres, with a covered patio and a tasting room that will definitely entice you to kick back and relax while you sip some of their top shelf blends and styles. Enjoy a day in this quaint little town, with its unique history, wonderful food, and great sips to be had. Be it quality-crafted Texas bourbon or “Hye”-class Texas Hill Country wine, you can’t go wrong here!
