On May 3, a suspicious device, later revealed to be an IED, was found under a bridge in Rosebud, Texas, about 40 miles southeast of Waco.

As two boys were out hunting for rabbits on Tuesday night, they stumbled upon suspicious packages under a bridge near Rosebud, around Farm to Market 1963, as KCEN reported. The boys quickly “notified one of their parents, who is former military personnel, and he contacted the fire department.”

After the fire department determined the packages could be IEDs, or improvised explosive devices, they contacted the McLennan County Bomb Squad to investigate further. The bomb squad x-rayed “three suspicious devices which included a plastic bottle wrapped in duct tape, a fuse-type detonator device, and a cooler.” Inside the bottle was an unidentified liquid and shotgun shells.

Based on the contents, the squad determined that the packages were IEDs designed to blow shrapnel far and wide, as the liquid was flammable, and could have caused serious and widespread damage.

Sheriff Parnell McNamara told KCEN that “someone made this to create lots of damage and harm.”

The two boys who located the packages are not considered suspects and are praised for contacting one of their parents, who knew exactly what to do. Protocol was followed to a tee in this case and no one was injured, despite the intention of the IED.
