Authorities are looking for the vandals who broke into the San Antonio Botanical Garden sometime between Saturday evening to Sunday morning and took one of the city’s golf carts for a ride.

KSAT says that whoever entered the park ran over plants and flowers (including bluebonnets and cacti), leaving them broken and smushed to the ground. They also created tire marks in the grass and scraped and dented the large chess pieces in the amphitheater. They ended the joyride at the lake by driving the cart right into the water.

SABG executive director Bob Brackman remained optimistic despite the damage, “We’ve been very fortunate. I think the city as a whole really appreciates its cultural institutions, and we find that true, especially here. But occasionally there’s a situation that isn’t what we want, and this was one of those.”

This isn’t the first time the Botanical Garden was subject to a crime involving one of their golf carts. MySA.com reported in 2011 that a group of four people broke into the gardens and drove off with one of the golf carts and items from inside the offices. But all in all, Brackman says that the gardens aren’t often vandalized, and thankfully, crews were able to make repairs ASAP so Easter Sunday guests didn’t notice the damage this year.
