Blondes, brunettes, and black hair are all represented in the emoji-world created by Apple for the iPhone, but people with red hair have been wondering, where are our red-headed emojis?

Click2Houston reports that a petition started up in Scotland after the latest iPhone emoji update revealed that redheads still had not been added to the face lineup. “Supporters of the redhead emoji movement say over 20,000 signatures have been added to the petition,” they write, adding that the Android device chose to offer orange-hair characters back in 2015.

Apparently, Apple has taken notice. The Daily Mail says, “Silicon Valley bosses are set to discuss introducing a ginger emoji into iPhone globally next week.” But perhaps it’s too early for redheads to get their hopes up, since the change is only being discussed next week, and the update itself would take a while to come to fruition.

“With a slim 1-2% of the population having red hair, it’s yet to be determined if this would justify every emoji having a redhead version made available,” Emojipedia states, but surely many people without natural red hair would like to use the icons as well. iPhone users will probably have to wait until 2018 to find out if the red-headed update will become a reality.
