Jamie Foxx, Academy and Grammy award-winning actor and singer, not to mention comedian, gave a video shout-out to his hometown teachers in Terrell, Texas on Thursday, August 18, thanking them for the work that they do, and acknowledging that without them, he wouldn’t know where he’d be today.

Posted by the Terrell Independent School District on their Facebook page, Foxx, who was a Terrell High School quarterback and graduate, sent the video message for the Terrell ISD’s Convocation earlier that day. Foxx thanked his teachers, saying that they helped to guide him through his life, which led him to the many accomplishments he’s had on stage, TV, the silver screen, and in music.

In all, winning over 40 awards from an Oscar to NAACP awards to Golden Globes, and a Grammy, Foxx has also had close to 80 additional nominations recognizing the work he has done in the arts. “I just want to say to all the teachers, thank you so much for doing a job that sometimes can be thankless,” he said in the video. “With your intellect, your help, and with your guidance, you’re going to make all those kids feel like life is worth living,” he noted.

The first day of school for Terrell ISD was on Monday, August 21, this year, and with an epic motivational speech such as this from one of their own graduates, we’re sure the teachers, not to mention the added staff and volunteers, that make the school year what it is in that district, will be completely motivated, seeing what their work has done for people like Foxx. And on Saturday, August 26, from 9 to 11 a.m., the Terrell ISD will be hosting a community-wide open house for Wood and Kennedy Elementary Schools, together with Furlough Middle School, in order to showcase improvements which have been made thanks to voter-approved bonds in 2016.
