When a veterinarian clinic posted a job ad for a paid, professional cat cuddler, the internet went nuts. News of the fantastical job offering went viral, and the details of the job description don’t disappoint. “The ideal candidate must have gentle hands capable of petting and stroking cats for long periods of time,” Just Cats Veterinary Clinic and Cattery writes on their website. The ad continues, saying that the ideal candidate should be “softly spoken and capable of cat whispering to calm the nerves of some of our in patients. An ability to understand different types of purring is a distinct added advantage in helping you secure this position with us.”

But before you get too excited and ready to send off your résumé, please note that the position is located in Dublin, Ireland and requires a “veterinary council of Ireland qualification.” While the tragic reality that we can’t all be professional cat cuddlers sinks in, the Huffington Post points out that people who feel inspired by the call to cuddle can reach out to their local animal shelters to foster or volunteer right here in Texas. Of course, the position won’t be paid, but the kittens and cats in need will thank you in their own little ways.
