2016 saw the loss of many a great singer, songwriter, actor or performer; Keith Urban paid tribute to them in his New Year’s Eve live performance in Nashville, TN. Over the course of his 8-minute set at the “Music City Midnight” celebration, Urban honored Merle Haggard, David Bowie, Glenn Frey, Prince, and Leonard Cohen.

While tens of thousands of fans waited in the rain during the star-packed New Year’s Eve lineup, when Urban performed his tribute, they cheered and watched as images of those he honored appeared on the event screen before them. His performance, recognizing the greats, included “Mama Tried,” “Take it Easy,” and “Purple Rain” as just a sampling and CNN posted the video of his performance on their Facebook page:

And Urban wasn’t the only highlight of the montage. His wife, Nicole Kidman, also appeared on stage to dance along – all the way through Bowie, “The Hag,” and finally, the remarkable rendition of Prince’s “Purple Rain.”

With many New Year’s Eve festivities featuring a number of performers, it can be difficult to stand out in the crowd, but that’s definitely not the case as Keith sings, Nicole dances, and a multitude of our musical heroes are shown on the screen for all to pay their tribute. It’s a truly amazing spectacle.
