CBS DFW writes that the British Medical Journal held a fascinating story of a woman with terrible stomach pain and bloating…and a hidden ketchup packet. Doctors diagnosed her with Crohn’s disease, but the medication she took for Crohn’s didn’t do her any good. Her doctors then decided that surgery was the best choice.

Once doctors were surgically searching through her small intestine, they found two small pieces of plastic that reportedly had the word “Heinz” on them. They realized that the pieces of the ketchup packet had been cutting into her intestine and giving her symptoms that were similar to Crohn’s disease.

The ketchup packet was hanging around in her stomach for six years, but she does not recall ever consuming the plastic. After the bits were removed, her health returned to normal.

Newsweek points out that this story was originally published years ago, but since this is the time of year that people tend to take a keen interest in their health and what they eat, news stations have been recirculating this woman’s unfortunate ordeal.
