Kids in the Texas Hill Country may fall into one of a couple categories: those that are homebodies, who like to stick close to Mom & Dad, play around the house, and maybe have a couple friends over, and those who are always on the go, wanting to get out into public, nature, or a mix of the two. There are always going to be activities that some do or do not like, but if you’re a parent or grandparent trying to find new places to go and things to do with your child or grandchild in the Texas Hill Country, you’re looking at one of the most popular areas of the state in which to do so. Aside from the scenic setting (which might get completely overlooked by a younger one), the Hill Country offers many kid-friendly activities to enjoy. Here are some of the best things to do with younger kids in the Texas Hill Country.

Visit the Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch.

The Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch provides an African-style safari setting here in the Texas Hill Country. They have four miles of driving trail allowing visitors to see animals from a 400-acre ranch. Guests can stay in their vehicle and observe more than forty species, including zebras, ostrich, giraffes, rhinos, and more. After taking the tour, you can spend time at their gift shop and petting zoo or have a meal at their restaurant!

Go to Garner State Park.

One of the more popular state parks in the state, Garner State Park is situated on the southern outskirts of the Texas Hill Country and entails over 1,400 acres and a 10-acre piece of the Frio River. Here, visitors have a number of outdoor recreational activities at their fingertips, including swimming and tubing, camping, hiking, and fishing, as well as canoeing and paddling. If your child or grandchild is into the great outdoors, Garner State Park will be a great pilgrimage.

Take a Trip to the Austin Zoo.
