In the midst of a highly politically-charged time, Lady Gaga did a non-partisan, huge, glittery, and varied Super Bowl halftime show, declaring mid-set, “We’re here to make you feel good!” While we’re sure that show organizers and the NFL were potentially biting their collective nails, Gaga stated in her NFL press conference a statement of “inclusion,” together with a positive and uncontentious model, which she indeed followed through on, first singing a few lines from “God Bless America” as well as “This Land Is Your Land” and delivering the closing of the Pledge of Allegiance, prior to literally jumping into the Houston show.

Costumed in a silver, shiny, body suit with broad shoulders, reminiscent of sci-fi examples, and coupled with matching high-heeled boots, Gaga wore a matching glittery mask which was painted around her eyes and definitely suited her phenomenal entrance. She was lowered by suspension cables into the center of Houston’s NRG Stadium and immediately began with a selection of her hits. Her full Pepsi Zero Sugar Super Bowl Halftime Show is available below for viewing, in high quality, and if you pay close attention, she specifically references the state of Texas during the performance of “Poker Face.”

Besides the record-setting overtime and come-from-behind win, another record was set in that it was almost certainly the first time that the word “transgendered” was referenced during a Super Bowl halftime show. Gaga performed her hit “Born This Way” acknowledging acceptance and inclusion of all, incorporating dozens of multinational dancers from both genders, corresponding to her moves in joyful expression and dance, symbolizing her stance of empowered celebration.
