Learn How to Be a Mermaid During a ‘Mermaiding’ Class in Plano
The Adventure Scuba & Snorkeling Center in Plano, Texas offers underwater gear and popular scuba classes, but there’s one course in particular that stands out due to its unconventional nature. “Mermaiding” classes meet once a week and introduce young people and adults to their mermaid alter-ego. Participants sport beautiful tails while learning to swim gracefully under the water and tap into their inner-Ariel.
“It is rivaling our scuba program with respect to participation. I never saw it coming,” business owner Richard Dean told WFAA. The class is lead by marketing manager Moira Dobbs who glides effortlessly in the water, as if her tail were actually real. “People just forget what it was like to be 12 years old and I like to share that magic,” she told the news.
But Mermaiding classes are about more than learning how to swim with a tail. Adventure Scuba hopes to activate a passion for the water and conservation. “The mermaid workshops with Moira the Mermaid are a blast. I love that she spends time talking about conservation for our oceans, and sharing her wonderful experiences while teaching us proper mermaid etiquette. It really makes me want to get more into the conservation side in addition to the fun,” Kendall O’Connor writes on the company’s Facebook page.
Those who are interested in learning the art of Mermaiding should check the Adventure Scuba website for dates, times and sign up information.
