In 2017, the website FidoFinder.com helped reunite over 900 lost pets with their owners, and you might be shocked to learn which breeds were more likely to be listed as missing. According to the website, Chihuahuas are the most common dog breed reported as lost. Other breeds such as Pit Bulls, Labradors, Poodles, and German Shepherds also made their way into the top 10 breeds most likely to become estranged from their owners.

The website notes some of the more popular breeds, specifically Golden Retrievers, Bulldogs, and Beagles were noticeably absent from the list, hinting at a possible correlation between breed type and obedience level.

Fido Finder has been connecting lost pet owners and lost pet finders since 2004 using a classified listing format and an automated notification system. Additionally, the website works with local shelters in order to notify them of any lost pets in their area and encourages them to register with the site in order to track missing animals that they might be holding.

This website, and others like it, became an invaluable resource for pet owners who became displaced and separated from their animals last year after natural disasters, such as Hurricane Harvey, affected millions of people across the state.

If you or someone you know is missing a beloved animal, or if you have rescued an animal you believe to be missing, follow this link to the Fido Finder website.
