In the event of a zombie apocalypse, wouldn’t it be nice to know that your city is among the most capable of surviving such a catastrophe? Say no more! Realtor.com ranked Lubbock, Texas as the top city in America in which the populace could survive a zombie apocalypse, supported by several factors which were unique to the area.
That’s right, among the many beneficial selling points for your home (if you really want to move away from Lubbock now that you’re aware of this illustrious honor), realtor.com studied a number of factors, including drinking water availability, number of panic rooms and underground shelters, active military, and listings that included renewable energy generators, among others, to make this determination. According to the website, Lubbock excelled in more than one category.

Lubbock has thousands of licensed gun owners, suggesting the ability to stockpile weapons. It also has more than 10,000 residents who are employed in the health field, which is a plus when you’re, you know, fighting brain-eating zombies.
Similarly, the availability of underground shelters or safe rooms in the Lubbock area attributed to its ranking on this list, which stems from an enormous tornado that struck the area in the 1970s according to Jacky Howard, a Lubbock real estate agent with Coldwell Banker. She told Realtor.com, “What came out of it was that Texas Tech became a leader in creating safe rooms to prevent against future disasters.”

And, if you ever wondered if or how you could trust your neighbors in a zombie apocalypse, Lubbock residents have got your back! According to the Lubbock County Emergency Management Coordinator, Clinton Thetford, citizens of this fine Texas city often experience extreme weather conditions. As such, they have learned quickly how to prepare for some worst-case scenarios. “Most people that have lived in West Texas any amount of time, when they know a big storm is coming, they get prepared. They get plenty of food, water, milk and eggs, bread, whatever they need. And then they still hunkered down until it’s over.” Mayor Dan Pope told the press that he wasn’t surprised that Lubbock had such credibility. He advised that city residents are tough and have always been able to handle whatever came their way. “I know they could handle the zombies,” he said.
