Make-a-Wish Makes Little Boy’s Dream of Being a Garbageman Come True
Ethan Dean, 6, had an incredible day thanks to the Make-a-Wish Foundation and the city of Sacramento. The little boy, who has cystic fibrosis, wished to be a garbageman and ride around in their recognizable big truck.
Cystic fibrosis is a rare disease with less than 200,000 cases a year in the United States. It is an inherited and incurable disease that results in lung and digestive system damage. It’s tough enduring this illness, and Ethan definitely needed a special day to remind him how brave and loved he is.
An assembly at his elementary school started the day off with a celebration that welcomed a huge truck with a sign that read “Ethan’s Garbage Truck.’ Once Ethan got on board and dressed with a worker’s vest and cap, they drove throughout Sacramento picking up trash.
Ethan had a blast watching the loud truck clean up the town while people lined the streets with balloons and signs to cheer him on. At the end of the day, the truck pulled up at the California State Capitol Building where Ethan received a key to the city from Mayor David M. Sander.
ABC 13 happily reported that the little boy never stopped smiling from ear-to-ear that day.
