Man Robs a Bank to Choose Jail Over Living with Wife
To say Lawrence John Ripple wasn’t happy with his marriage is a bit of an understatement. Recently, the 70-year-old Kansas City man robbed a bank so he could go to jail. He saw this fate as a favorable alternative to living with his wife.
Ripple walked into the bank and demanded money from a bank teller via a note saying he was armed and wanted cash. After police were notified, they arrived on the scene to find the man casually waiting in the lobby, cash in hand, but with no desire to run.
According to KXAN, Ripple told police he would take a trip to jail over returning home, and he had even written his bank robbery note in front of his wife earlier that day. He said that he jotted it down during an argument that began over fixing their laundry dryer.
Ripple might spend up to 20 years in prison for his actions, and he also could owe up to $250,000. His wife says this is very unusual for him, and he has never had brushes with the law before this incident. The couple has been married for 33 years.
