San Antonio store Miracle Mattress is closing indefinitely after they released an insensitive commercial for a “Twin Tower Sale” to occur over the weekend of September 11.

They have since deleted the commercial (though MySA.com posted a copy). It features two employees falling onto two towers made of mattresses and a woman smugly saying, “We’ll never forget,” once they collapse.

The owner released an initial apology, but many commenters didn’t find it to be sincere. A second apology followed, but it hasn’t stopped people from expressing their outrage and disappointment for such a thoughtless commercial and sale.

The store’s owner, Mike Bonanno, wrote in the new apology, “Effective immediately, our Miracle Mattress store will be closed indefinitely. We will be silent through the 9/11 anniversary to avoid any further distractions from a day of recognition and remembrance for the victims and their families. We take full responsibility for our actions and sincerely regret the hurt and pain caused by this disrespectful advertising campaign.”

Facebook commenter Theresa O’kelly-Moriarty wrote in response, “I am an NYr. I was here when the world stopped turning. Witnessed it. Lived it. Lost friends, neighbors, and family. You have no clue what it was like here.”

Whether or not the company can or even wants to make a comeback after this debacle remains to be seen.
