Earlier this year, the Adult Swim show “Rick and Morty” featured an old McDonald’s favorite, Szechuan Sauce, in one of their episodes. KSLA explains that the sauce was first released when the Disney movie “Mulan” came out, and when the wave of nostalgia hit “Rick and Morty” viewers, McDonald’s decided to bring the sauce back for a very limited time.

The plan was to offer small condiment tubs of Szechuan Sauce and posters at a select few McDonald’s at 2 p.m. on Saturday the 7th until they ran out. But, it seems as though McDonald’s seriously underestimated the love for Szechuan Sauce. KSLA reports that a crowd of people physically stood in the drive-thru line, waiting to order chicken strips and the sauce.

On Sunday, McDonald’s took to Facebook to issue a statement after they received many complaints from sauce fans who didn’t get a taste after they waited in line at the select locations. Others were upset that there weren’t any Szechuan Sauce grabbing opportunities near them, and some people even traveled across state lines.

“…Our super-limited batch, though well-intentioned, clearly wasn’t near enough to meet that demand…Szechuan Sauce is coming back once again this winter. And instead of being one-day-only and limited to select restuarants, we’re bringing more – a lot more – so that any fan who’s willing to do whatever it takes for Szechuan Sauce will only have to ask for it at a nearby McDonald’s,” the company wrote. Keep an eye out for the offer later this year!
