Will you win the washer pitching contest, the hunt for the silver, or the rubber duck races? The fun begins at 9 a.m. on May 4, 2019, but note that those competing in the cook-off will need to register their meats on the previous night.  A fun, laid-back barbecue competition, this 5th annual event draws quite the crowd. Prizes are based on the number of entries each year, with a cash and trophy award for each placing. In addition, the Secondhand Smoke barbecue food truck will be onsite. This year, they’re not only serving up their own brand of Texas dishes to cook-off attendees, but they’re also contenders in the competition!

The Jim Bowie Days Car Show soon follows, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. Now in its second year, the show features classic rides showing in a number of categories for various prizes. There’s also a Mr. and Miss Nugget contest for the kids, where a little man and little woman of the area will be crowned for the big day! Historically, Menard is synonymous with Jim Bowie’s foray into finding a lost silver mine, for which the town will be featured in an upcoming Travel Channel episode of “Lost Gold.” Subsequently, Texas history is not lost on this town or its inhabitants. Menard is proud of the role the area played in Texas history, and they love to share the story with visitors from all over the world.
