Mom Refrains From Telling Her Kids ‘No’ For a Whole Week

By  |

In a new video from Buzzfeed, Hannah, mom of two, takes “gentle parenting” to a whole new level. (Gentle parenting is defined by respecting one’s children, empathizing with them, allowing them to make choices and have opinions, and giving them ample attention, according to gentleparenting.co.uk.)

Hannah says that while she follows the gentle parenting guidelines, she does tell her children “no” perhaps more than she feels other parents in her mom group do. So, for the sake of experimentation and a Buzzfeed video, she set out to only tell her kids “yes” for a week and go with their whims (within reason). As seen in the beginning of the video, this includes eating spaghetti tacos for dinner!

The video turns out to be rather touching, and Facebook commenters on Buzzfeed Video are picking up on the importance of being open enough to say “yes.” Colleen Spellane Giannini wrote, “I am a single mom of 6. This girl (mom) is half my age, with half my experience and I just learned a whole a lot of new ways to approach my children. I am so programmed to say no that half the time I don’t even listen to the entire question. I love the fact that just saying yes may mean an amazing fun night. It may not be all that realistic but I am certainly going to try.”
