Students attending the Script to Screen class this fall at the University of Texas have probably written home more than once to say how much cooler their professor seems. That’s because UT confirmed by social media on Wednesday, August 28, 2019, that Matthew McConaughey, the award-winning actor who was born and raised here, would be a full-time member of their faculty as a film professor. Prior to this, McConaughey was a visiting professor at UT, his former alma mater through the Radio-Television-Film program, and was excited to fulfil his new role as a faculty member in a full-time capacity.
It’s now been revealed in an offer letter obtained by mysanantonio.com that McConaughey is allegedly paid $12,00 for each course that he teaches independently, and $6,000 for the courses he co-teaches. It’s not the usual movie star salary, but we have a feeling that McConaughey is less interested in the money than the opportunity to inspire.
“Alright, alright, alright! It’s back-to-school time for a lot of people, including #MatthewMcConaughey! The star has officially joined the faculty at the University of Texas as a professor. Though he’s been a visiting instructor since 2015, Matthew’s now been appointed a “professor of practice” and will continue teaching the Script to Screen class in the film department,” @etalkctv tweeted.
