NBC TV Show Set in San Antonio Gets the Axe From the Network
“The Night Shift” on NBC has officially been canceled. IMDB’s description of the show explains it focused on “…a group of doctors from the Army return[ing] to work the night shift at a hospital in San Antonio.” After four seasons which started in 2014, “The Night Shift” accumulated 45 episodes and a 7.4 rating out of 10 on IMDB.
MySA.com writes that while the show’s story was based in San Antonio, it was filmed in New Mexico due to the state’s better film incentives than Texas. The series didn’t fully embrace the local life by including many scenes or shots of San Antonio, but they did make mention of the military presence in the city, the Spurs, the River Walk, the Alamo, and popular restaurants. But overall, the charm of filming in San Antonio was missed by Texans watching the show.
One review on IMDB which was written by Malli Karim reads, “It’s well done, the acting is good enough, the cases are interesting, and the whole military guys coming to be a doctor at a hospital in a night shift is pretty interesting. I would say, give the show a chance it can grow on you. I know the market is a bit saturated and over the whole medical drama theme…”
