Situated close to the intersection of Hwy. 242 and Hwy. 59, just north of Kingwood, Grand Texas is a planned 610-acres of family fun, shopping, and dining, to include the designated water park area which will be called Big Rivers. After a series of delays, the updated timeline for that project now consists of Big Rivers completion in the spring of 2018, the Grand Texas Sportsplex completion by winter of the same year, Grove Factory Outlet Mall completion in the spring of 2019, and finally, Grand Texas Theme Park completion in the spring of 2020.

The initial lender on the project backed out, causing the delays that have since plagued it. The downturn in the oil and gas industry scared lenders off from making large investments in the Houston area. Galland explained that construction delays on infrastructure projects also delayed the project further. Having completed the $9 million in infrastructure projects that surround Big Rivers, lending for the water park has since been secured, and although these setbacks delayed the project somewhat, its CEO is confident that the project is now back on track. After construction on the water park is complete in the spring, the development will shift gears and focus next on the Grand Texas Theme Park, complete with the sportsplex and a factory outlet mall, which will be similar in size and features to the Texas City Tanger Outlets.

Anticipated to commence upon lease-up of 60 percent of the property, construction on the factory outlet mall will form the development of a destination as well as a tax base to contribute to the completed infrastructure. The park itself is anticipated to feature five roller coasters, several dozen amusement rides, and have an emphasis on live entertainment. Its theme will be based on Texas history, including the influences of Spain, Mexico and Germany. As a component of the property, Big Rivers water park is expected to be 40 acres of family fun inspired by Texas rivers. In addition to these projects, Grand Texas will also be home to four hotels, as well as 450,000 square feet of dining and retail in its Downtown Texas section.

Completed to date, the 632-acre entertainment venue, including Grand Texas RV Park and Speedsportz Racing Park, represent only a small piece of the overall puzzle, and welcome visitors to affordable, comfortable, and spacious accommodations as well as a kart-racing park that features two European-style tracks, one of which hosts international events and professional kart races. Speed Street was also completed in November of 2016, which was the quarter-mile entrance developed specifically for the Speedsportz Racing Park. This $1.2 million project was the first phase of the over two miles of public roads which will make up Grand Texas’ travel ways upon completion. Like everything else in Texas, this park will not only be big, it’s going to be Grand!
