The New York Yankees made what some are deeming a “classy” gesture when they sent a floral display to family members and coworkers of fallen Texas Tech Officer Floyd East Jr. In a post made to their Facebook page, KCBD News Channel 11 shared two photographs of the flowers. A note from the baseball club read, “With our deepest sympathy. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the entire East family and the family of the TTU Police Department. The New York Yankees”

Tragically, Officer East was murdered on Oct. 9 when a situation that began as a welfare check on freshmen student Hollis “Reid” Daniels in his dorm room ended with Daniels allegedly shooting the officer inside the TTU police station.

Daniels fled the scene, resulting in a campus-wide lockdown before he was eventually apprehended. According to KCBD, the 19-year-old Seguin native is currently being held on a $5 million dollar bond and is facing charges of possession of a stolen firearm and capital murder of a peace officer.
