Here’s How Much NRG Pays to Keep Their Name on the Texans Stadium
Would you guess that NRG pays around $12 million every year to keep its name in massive letters on the front gate of the Texans Stadium?
The Texans Stadium naming right deal is one of the most expensive in the entire United States, but their name is certainly visible throughout the stadium to the thousands of people who visit the venue.
Interestingly, NRG pays a substantially “cheaper” price than AT&T does to keep their name on the Dallas Cowboys Stadium. AT&T’s deal is around $19 million a year!
With these prices, it’s easy to see why it’s often banks, energy, and airline companies that proudly display their names on massive sports arenas and not smaller companies, or even individuals who just want to see their name in lights.
Even though well-known names are all you see on stadiums, naming rights deals are in limbo at the moment. The New York Times reports that Jim Grinstead, publisher of a newsletter called Revenues from Sports Venues, stated, “Companies are certainly backing off. They’ve watched the scrutiny the financial sector went through for naming rights and they don’t want to go through the same thing.”
