Featuring four miles of river frontage, Guadalupe River State Park offers 13 miles of hiking trails that range from the 2.86-mile Painted Bunting Trail to the .26-mile Barred Owl Trail, which leads you to a scenic overlook of the river. Stretching 106 miles long, the Pedernales River, which is a tributary of the Colorado River, was a favorite playground of Lyndon Baines Johnson. Today, the state park that encompasses the Pedernales serves as a playground for those who crave the water as well as the wilderness. Featuring both easy and challenging hiking trails, many of the paths lead its hikers directly to the river where you can cool your trail-wearing feet in the naturally formed stair-stepped pools of crystal clear water.
