When a food favorite becomes regionalized, that’s the premise for popularity right there. Case in point: Orange Dip from the Old Mexican Inn in Corsicana, Texas. Rumor has it, the business fields several phone calls per month requesting the recipe. None have succeeded in getting that precious little piece of information. And rightfully so. If we knew how to make it, would we be driving to Corsicana? Well, you bet your booty, because on special occasions they also serve $1.75 margaritas!

Tracing its roots back to 1941, the Old Mexican Inn was the recipient of a “Texas Treasures” award from the Texas Historical Commission in 2014, confirming it was more than just a local legend. Owned by the Flores family since its beginnings, it has a straightforward Tex-Mex menu full of tantalizing tacos, enchiladas, soups, and salads, not to mention the combo platters (for those that have a tough time deciding) and it features a wonderful Orange Dip that locals rave about and many can’t get enough of. What has been explained as a “secret sauce” of sorts, the dip originally had its beginnings as a salad dressing, but now gets served with homemade tortilla chips and salsa, and locals say it’s to-die-for.

Prompt, friendly service, wonderful dishes, and a history that speaks to its passion for great food service with a smile, this restaurant invites locals and tourists alike to partake of their amazing menu. The Orange Dip may be something to write home about, but all other items, including their specialty drinks, are no slouches in comparison. Their latest winter drink creation was the Banana Creme Pie Martini! If that doesn’t make you want to sit up and beg, we’d have to wonder what planet you’re from. Get on out to Corsicana, because the Old Mexican Inn es muy bueno!
