For the main course, my husband ordered the skatewing also a featured entrée from the tasting menu. I asked our server to let the chef surprise me with his choice for my dinner.
Skatewing if you’ve never had it tastes like a mild light white fish (think cod or halibut), but there is a buttery kind of clam-like flavor to it too. Roasted brussels sprouts, tomato, bonito flakes (shaved fermented fish), and sunchokes accompanied the fish. Sunchokes (also known as Jerusalem artichokes) have a nutty, buttery flavor like a cross between an artichoke heart and a fingerling potato – a perfect partner to the skatewing.

My surprise entrée arrived and did not disappoint. Pillowy, melt in your mouth gnocchi mixed with charred cauliflower, apricot jam and pistou (think French pesto) all married together in a savory white sauce. It was surprisingly light but satisfying and still left me ready to try an after dinner treat.

Although the Mexican chocolate tart definitely had my choco-meter ticking, we once again allowed the tasting menu to dictate our dessert choice and went for the duck egg crème brûlée with fresh berries. What does duck egg crème brûlée taste like? Only the best crème brûlée you’ve ever eaten dressed up a notch because of the added layer of richness and creaminess the duck egg provides. There is no wacky weird gamey taste, simply smooth luxuriousness in every bite.
