Parsons Joins Colbert on Late Show for ‘Rescue Dog Rescue’ Segment

By  |

Native of Houston, Texas, and actor, Jim Parsons from “The Big Bang Theory” joined “Late Show” host Stephen Colbert on May 3, 2017, in a segment entitled “Rescue Dog Rescue” where the two told little white lies in order to help shelter dogs find forever homes.

The lies are told about puppies in a humorous (never harmful) fashion in an effort to have them adopted by people that might be in the process of looking for a new pet. The plan for the segment is to make the dogs seem more attractive than they ordinarily would be, with a few laughs mixed into the process of course. Parsons joined Colbert in describing all of the actual adoptable dogs from North Shore Animal League America, the largest no-kill animal adoption and rescue group in the world. Parsons came prepared with his awkward, Sheldon-esque character mode from “Big Bang” and surprisingly, his first puppy to lie about was named “Penny” (also a “Big Bang” character name), a Dachshund Min Pin mix. Stating that Penny was a fashionista who swore that cargo pants were going to come back into style, “…maybe not today, maybe not tomorrow, but they’re coming back.”

Colbert and Parsons took turns lying about the puppies, using good-hearted humor that clearly appealed to the audience, including, “…the only dog in the world who actually does eat homework,” which Parsons said would be the perfect puppy for a student. At the end of the segment, the two wrapped up with Colbert making note that more information could be obtained on the The Late Show with Stephen Colbert website for adoption of any of the dogs that were highlighted, as well as North Shore Animal League America.
