Pearland Football Player Passes Away Following Game in San Antonio
On Friday evening, 11th grader Chase Lightfoot passed away after playing in a football game in San Antonio. Lightfoot was a junior at Shadow Creek High School in Pearland and played on the varsity football team as No.65.
Teammate Sterling Seriale remembers him as a positive force. “He made everybody’s day. Even when you were the maddest person in the world. You just looked at him and you just start smiling,” Sterling told KHOU.
KHOU reports that Lightfoot began experiencing health problems during the game’s second half. Fellow teammate Dameon Jackson said, “He ran off the field. One of my friends, his name is Junior. He grabbed him, I guess he was breathing hard. He grabbed (Lightfoot) and he was pouring water on his neck.” Shortly afterwards he was rushed to the hospital where he died around 2:30 in the morning on Saturday.
Shadow Creek High School’s principal Kelly Hestand wrote the following in a statement,
“As educators, there is nothing we will deal with more difficult than the loss of a child. This will be a difficult week for our campus. It will also be a time for us to pull together and show support for the young man’s family as well as those closest to him. Counselors from the district’s crisis response team will be at our campus on Monday morning, and as long as they are needed to provide support to our students and staff.”
