Aric Harding, the piano man who played a beautiful melody one last time on his piano during Hurricane Harvey, is receiving a big surprise. Pastor Harding, whose home was overtaken by the flood waters that came through his neighborhood in Friendswood, TX, received a call from Singer Vanessa Carlton stating that she would like to replace his piano.

In her Twitter account, Carlton had this to share after seeing Harding’s story, “This story is so important. Is there a way I can get his contact info? I’d like to get him a replacement piano if this one doesn’t make it.” Friday, September 1, 2017, Carlton shared on CNN that Yamaha had agreed to replace Harding’s piano. The local ABC 13 station shared his announcement on air as Harding’s emotions lit up the segment as he shared his hopes that Carlton will deliver the piano herself, and join in a concert in his family’s backyard once the home is renovated from the damage of the storm.

This video shared on the Associated Press’ YouTube channel is heartwrenching, to say the least. “I went back to our street today because as you guys have probably seen the water has come back with a vengeance,” shared Harding on his Instagram account. ” I think it’s all finally sinking in a little. What we used to have going as a city is gone. I really think God is going to do something completely new here.”

Harding was right, “something completely new” did come out of such devastation brought on by Hurricane Harvey. Not only did his playing inspire thousands across the world, including Carlton, but he showed us that despite such tragic circumstances going on around you, you can still find hope. As he returned that day to salvage some of his family’s belongings, in knee-high water along with debris, and family memories scattered, he played his piano one last time. Unknowingly, he brought a sort of calm amidst the storm to so many.
