On February 12th, a United Airlines pilot appeared to be in a state of mental instability, which caused the flight to be delayed for two hours while airline officials called in new flight crew. FOX 6 reports that the plane was ready to pull back from the gate to head from Austin to San Francisco, but the pilot alarmed passengers when she showed up without her uniform on and “spoke to them about her divorce and the presidential election, among other issues.” There was no report confirming or denying the use of drugs or alcohol.

ABC 13 reports that it’s unknown why the pilot was even allowed on the plane after showing signs of mental instability. Hayes Davis tweeted at 5:08 p.m. that the pilot “just gave a super weird political speech and seems pretty unstable. Not comforting.” Sarah K  tweeted at 5:19 p.m. that half the plane had slowly exited the aircraft.

United Airlines released a statement after the matter was resolved saying, “We hold our employees to the highest standards and have replaced this pilot with a new one to operate the flight, which has since departed Austin. We apologize to our customers for the inconvenience.”
