Plan a ‘Pocket Adventure’ to Cure Summertime Blues

Then, on the count of three, the revelers together took the plunge into the chilly pool, indeed getting their hair wet. LeBlanc said of the event series, “Who cares if you get your hair wet? Get dirty! Get sweaty! Go outside! It’s all about encouraging people to explore the city and move out of their comfort zone.”

Austin’s next Pocket Adventure is scheduled at 8 a.m. on August 8, 2016. Participants will don their hiking boots for a trek along the Barton Creek Greenbelt. Special guest George Cofer of the Hill Country Conservancy will speak briefly as well. Rumor has it TacoDeli is donating  breakfast tacos and expect another plunge into Barton Springs Pool to close out the hour long event.

Creating your own pocket adventure is easy:

  1.  Choose a local attraction. Maybe it’s a museum you’ve always wanted to visit, maybe it’s a local park you’ve been meaning to explore, or maybe it’s a historic site or botanical garden — somewhere close to home that you may have overlooked or haven’t visited for a while. Stumped? Check out the local chamber of commerce website or the local visitors center.
  2. Prepare for your adventure. Pack up the sunscreen and water, load up the kids, and grab some breakfast.
  3. Explore your chosen destination. Do exactly what your kids do. Try to experience the place like they do. Make it fun. Participate. Smell each flower, go down the slide, take part in interactive exhibits. In short, get your hair wet and enjoy!
