“Time for an update on Iroh’s Adventures. Iroh got sworn in today by Chief Nannenga, Iroh is official! #IrohAdventures,” the Avondale AZ Police Department wrote on their Facebook page along with two photos of Iroh, the bearded dragon. The lizard is seen gazing up at the police chief while being sworn in as an official member of the force and receiving its badge that’s bigger than its tiny head.

Though it was posted on April 13th, 12 days too late for April Fool’s Day, the post was a nod to their April 1st joke last year where the force announced that Iroh was to become their “drug-sniffing lizard” since, they explained, reptiles’ keen sense of smell could sniff out illegal substances more efficiently than K9s. The funny post went viral, gaining over 38K shares, and suddenly, Iroh was a hit on the internet.

Mashable points out that over the past year, the Avondale Police Department has continued to embrace the popularity of their pet/mascot by photographing the lizard manning a radar gun and even taking care of some the department’s paperwork. With Iroh’s professional resume in mind, it’s only right that he was finally sworn in!
