Texans know how to make a lot out of a little, so seeing kids enjoying a makeshift pool in the back of a truck with a tarp isn’t far-fetched. Sadly, a photo showing a family cooling off in their temporary pool was publicly mocked and shared on Facebook.

When the photo went viral, it left San Antonio resident Todd Arredondo wanting to reach out. After tracking down the family who was subject to the impolite post, Arredondo used his own money to purchase an inflatable pool for the kids.

The gift was such a big success that from there Arredondo started a campaign called “Pools For Kids.” This cause raised $1200 in 24 hours on its GoFundMe page. With these donations Arredondo has been able to deliver 50 pools to San Antonio families. Arredondo told MySA, “I’ve met some amazing families and heard heartbreaking stories. But at the end of the day, if you can put a smile on a kid’s face — it’s priceless.”

In the future, he hopes to develop a nonprofit to keep helping families who need some summer fun and a way to cool off. If you’d like to learn more, check out the “Pools For Kids” Facebook and GoFundMe page.
