A long-standing holiday tradition among the city of Houston, TX is being put on hold for the next two years. The Uptown Houston Holiday Lighting event is a staple among the citizens of Houston as they head to the popular celebration of festive fireworks each Thanksgiving evening. In an article by abc13.com, they recently shared that the yearly event would be put on hold for two years due to the construction of Post Oak Boulevard. Post Oak Boulevard is the site on which hundreds gather to stand and hear the sights and sounds of this magical evening.

Plans are in the works to update Post Oak Boulevard and revamp the Uptown Houston Holiday Lighting event which is set to debut again on Thanksgiving evening of 2019. “We have an opportunity to create an even more spectacular event and an incredible destination boulevard for the holidays,” said John Breeding, President Uptown Houston District. “Many of the new elements on the boulevard will become future holiday decorations,” shared Breeding with abc13.com.

Many will be disappointed as the event is a long-standing tradition among families around Houston. After a day spent with family and friends celebrating Thanksgiving, thousands would head out for the spectacular display of lights and entertainment throughout the evening which ended with a series of fireworks to the tunes of Christmas music ringing in the season.

As of date, no further updates were available on the progress or details of the construction. The anticipation of a newly updated lighting event will surely be welcomed come Thanksgiving 2019.
