Some stretches of road don’t offer much in the way of restaurants. However, if you’re hankering for a tasty burger along Highway 46 and you’re between Bulverde and Bergheim, put Old West Burgers on 1005 Laswell Lane into your GPS to settle that growling stomach (or complaining backseat). An unassuming façade with front and side parking, this joint is typically open Tuesday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Online ordering is also available, which can be picked up along the way or used to minimize time off the road.

Come in through the entry and turn to your right (booths are along the front wall), then order at the counter, where a backlit menu is displayed. All orders include fries, and tea or canned soda. A light-up buzzer will indicate when your food is ready to be picked up at the counter. All beef is fresh and hand-formed into burgers. Fries are of the very crispy, medium cut variety. Beyond the standard cheeseburger, they also offer chicken burgers, turkey burgers, and fish burgers. If you are aiming to get a spicy fix, there are plenty of ways to do it, including habanero salsa and jalapeno adornments. Veggies are fresh, and the buns are delightfully toasted. Gluten-free buns are also available. One standup cooler has beer and sangria is also an option!

Comes with ketchup!

The overall space is quite large, with a party room toward the rear. Both table- and booth-seating are featured in the front room. Table placement is flexible, so accommodating a larger group isn’t an issue. Mustard and paper towels are on each table, and your order will come with ketchup. Several large televisions broadcast sports and news. Décor fits the Old West theme, and service was friendly. A great place for a bite when you’re traveling along HWY 46.
