This year marks 25 years since one of the biggest stars in country music crossed over to the silver screen in a musical western film in which a disillusioned singing sensation leaves the lights and the crowds behind to “take a walk.” That’s right, the King of Country music, George Strait, starred as Dusty Wyatt Chandler in the movie “Pure Country” back in 1992. Celebrating the film’s release and its quarter-of-a-century staying power, Strait is releasing the soundtrack on vinyl this September – something that has never before been done for this movie, and that collectors and fans alike will truly appreciate.
The film starts out with fans in a packed stadium chanting, “Dusty!” repeatedly, as they eagerly await their favorite country music concert to commence with the stage presence of Dusty Chandler. His manager, Lula Rogers, who is played by Lesley Ann Warren, is the impetus for the “walk” he eventually takes off the stage and out of the limelight, looking to get back to his roots and play the type of music he genuinely loved, to fans he knows will appreciate it.
